Collaborating with Sabrina Ghayour – A Feast for the Eyes
When it comes to vibrant, flavour-packed dishes that tell a story, few chefs can match Sabrina Ghayour’s creativity. Over the years, I’ve had the absolute privilege of photographing her stunning recipes—a collaboration that has grown into something truly special. Sabrina often refers to me as her “brother from another mother,” which perfectly sums up the warmth and camaraderie we share both on and off set.
How It All Began
Sabrina and I first crossed paths after the release of her first two books, and I was thrilled to join the team for her following titles. From the very beginning, I admired her bold approach to food—her dishes are not only bursting with flavour but also visual masterpieces, with colours and textures that leap off the plate. Photographing them felt like the perfect creative collaboration.
The Creative Process
Each book we’ve worked on together has been a team effort in the truest sense. Every shoot begins with concept discussions, where Sabrina, myself, and the rest of the team align on the vision for the book. Her recipes are deeply personal, inspired by her Persian heritage and global culinary experiences, so capturing their essence is a responsibility we all take seriously.
It’s not just about making the food look good—it’s about making it resonate. From selecting the right props to lighting that highlights every detail, every element of the shoot is carefully considered.
The Dream Team
Great collaborations don’t happen in isolation, and working on Sabrina’s books wouldn’t be possible without an incredible team:
- Jaz Bahra: The brilliant art director whose creative vision ties everything together. You can find her work on Instagram @jazpritibahra.
- Laura Field: The talented food stylist who makes each dish look as incredible as it tastes. From precise plating to ensuring every detail is perfect, Laura’s expertise is unmatched. Check out her Instagram @food_stylist_ or visit her website here.
- Agathe Gits: The prop stylist extraordinaire. Agathe’s eye for detail and knack for finding the perfect prop elevate each shot. You can explore her work on Instagram @agathegits or visit her studio, Latitudes.
This team is what makes every book special. Together, we create imagery that captures not only the beauty of Sabrina’s dishes but also the spirit of her cooking.
A Photographer’s Perspective
Photographing Sabrina’s recipes is a rewarding challenge. Her dishes are full of texture, from the crunch of flatbreads to the vibrancy of fresh herbs or the shimmer of a pomegranate glaze. My goal is to ensure that every photo reflects the vibrancy and heart of her cooking. For me, it’s not just about aesthetics—it’s about telling the story behind each dish and making the everyday feel extraordinary.
A Memorable Collaboration
One project that stands out is the shoot for Persiana Everyday, where we focused on making accessible, home-style dishes feel just as special as elaborate feasts. It was a testament to Sabrina’s belief that great food doesn’t need to be complicated. Working with the team, we captured the heart of this book: food that brings joy to everyday life.
Why This Collaboration Matters
Working with Sabrina has been one of the highlights of my career. Her creativity, warmth, and dedication inspire me every day. Beyond that, our collaboration reminds us of how powerful teamwork can be. Each book is more than just a collection of recipes—it’s a shared vision brought to life by a group of passionate creatives.
