Talking Food Photography with Steve and Nick on The Photography Pod
For the first episode of 2025, I had the pleasure of joining Steve and Nick on The Photography Pod to chat all things food photography. It was a fantastic conversation where we covered everything from my journey into the industry to the intricacies of creating mouthwatering food images.
As a London-based food photographer, I’ve been fortunate to work with many leading brands, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, M&S, Subway, and Nando’s. My background as a professional chef for over 15 years has played a key role in shaping my approach to photography, allowing me to combine culinary expertise with visual storytelling. In the episode, I shared how my experience in the kitchen helps me understand the best way to showcase food through the lens, ensuring every shot is as appetising as it is visually striking.
Steve and Nick asked some great questions, and we covered topics such as:
•My approach to a shoot – from planning and food styling to using medium format cameras in my studio.
•Advice for aspiring food photographers, including the importance of developing a unique style and working collaboratively with stylists and clients.
•One of my most unusual photography projects, and how it challenged me to think creatively in new ways.
It was a pleasure to talk about the ever-evolving food photography industry, touching on topics like lighting techniques, the role of motion content in today’s market, and how brands are looking for more engaging and authentic food imagery.
If you’re curious to learn more about my approach or want to hear some behind-the-scenes insights, be sure to check out the episode. A big thanks to Steve and Nick for having me on—it was a great chat, and I hope listeners find it inspiring and insightful.
